The contrasting landscapes and wide range of animals and birds make Tanzania the ultimate destination in Africa for the safari enthusiast. It is a land of astonishing beauty, a land of primordial cultural and natural heritage, with the Serengeti plains and the Ngorongoro Crater known to sustain the greatest concentration of wildlife in the world. This is indeed Africa at its best.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival by KLM flight on Tuesday or Friday at Kilimanjaro International Airport around 21.30h. After clearing customs and immigration, you enter the arrival hall where you will be met at the airport by our staff and transferred to Arusha Town at Impala Hotel ( 45 minutes drive) for late dinner and overnight.

Day 2
Pick up from your hotel in Arusha and drive to Lake Manyara Hotel for lunch. After lunch and check in, drive to Lake Manyara National park. The name 'Manyara' is from the Maasai word which is the name of the plant that the Maasai grow as livestock stockades. Manyara is perhaps most famous for its tree-climbing lions, elephants and wealth of bird life including thousands of flamingoes. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara Hotel.

Day 3
After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Highlands (2300m above sea level) and arrive in time for lunch at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge. After lunch at the lodge, drive to Serengeti through the Malanja depression, an area of dry, arid scrubland, with a chance to see giraffes. With game drive en route, you will continue to Seronera Wildlife Lodge for your dinner and overnight.

Day 4

Whole day game drives at Serengeti National Park. Serengeti is Tanzania's largest and best known national park with an area of 14,763 sq. km. 'Siringeti' in the Maasai language means 'endless space.' The most spectacular wildlife event takes place each year when the migration of hundreds of thousands of plains game, primarily wildebeest, zebra and gazelles move in a specific circular direction (followed by predators such as lion and cheetah) which eventually draws them to the northern end of the park and the Masai Mara in Kenya. Return to Seronera Wildlife Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5
Today, you will have a half day tour in Serengeti National Park. After lunch at the lodge, visit Olduvai Gorge which is famous for its human and animal fossils. In 1959, Dr. Leakey discovered the skull of a hominid, Australopithecus Bosei, which dates back to 1.75 million years and is now at Dar Es Salaam National Museum. Since then, other significant archaeological finds have been unearthed in and around Olduvai including the footprints of the hominid, Australopithecus Afarensis, at Laetoli. At the gorge itself, there is a small museum and guide to explain the archaeological events and geography of the area. Proceed to Ngorongoro arriving in the evening. You will enjoy a panoramic view of the crater. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge. Warm clothes are suggested as temperature is around 14C/57F degrees especially during the night.

Day 6
This morning by 4WD car, you make the dramatic descent down the Lerai escarpment for a full day on the famous Ngorongoro Crater floor. The word 'Ngorongoro' comes from the Maasai word 'Likorongoro' which was the name given to the group of Maasai warriors who defeated the previous occupants of the area, the Datong, around 1800. You will drive up to the Hippo pool site for a picnic lunch. Ngorongoro is the largest dry volcanic caldera in the world. The crater is the best place to see black rhino in their natural habitat and the regal black-maned lion. Other species encountered are wildebeest, zebra, spotted hyena and if one is lucky, leopard. Return late afternoon to your accommodation. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge.

Day 7
After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park. Short game drive inside the park en route to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, another game drive in Tarangire NP. During the dry months this park offers excellent game viewing opportunities and is especially famous for its large herd of elephants. Dinner and overnight at Tarangire Safari Lodge (tented) overlooking the Tarangire river.

Day 8
This morning, you will have a half day game drive in Tarangire National Park. After lunch at the lodge, you will drive back to Arusha for day use room and transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for KLM flight back home.
